Electronic Instrumentation & Control students. It also involves strategic planning for publicity of the program.

Extra Curricular Activities

  1. Faculty President Thapar Dance Club ‘NOX’ (2016-2019): The responsibility includes regulating the activities of the official dance team of the institute. Every year the team participates in various inter university competitions throughout the country. The institute invites leading choreographers to conducts workshops for training our students to appear at national level competitions. The team has shown an excellent performance this year by winning prizes at places like I.I.T. Ropar, PEC Chandigarh, etc. The team is emerging with a roar as the best team in Punjab and moving on to make a place for itself at the national level.

Student Testimonials

  • Sumeet Sagar
Incubation Manager-Product Development at AIC-Sangam Innovation Foundation
    Vice President- Manali Education Society.

“I can’t forget the day when I shared my random tech idea with Ma’am and how her response to it changed my life. She taught me how to build a working prototype out of an idea. Under her supervision I executed interdisciplinary projects without much trouble. The publications from the projects have helped me to stand out of the crowd in my career.”

  • Gungeet Singh

“The first thing that is required to be mentioned here is that, once she is your mentor, she will always be and that too a great one. We had our final year project with her. Even though we belong to mechatronics background, she took us under her care. Even if that meant extra work. There were points when we ( I ) were (was) angry and frustrated, but she guided us properly. Sometimes I didn’t understand things that I was doing., But I had blind Faith in her and it paid us well. We had the best project in that year. We got the first rank and prize for the same. Let me tell you, if you are not able to perform under her guidance, then it is because you didn’t work yourself. For every obstacle, she will be standing behind you and pushing you to reach further. As a mentor, as a teacher, as a guide, as a counselor, as a friend - she is really great. Thank you ma’am for always supporting us.”

“Hi, Dr. Swati Sondhi, a name that will remain in my heart forever. Ma’am working with you and learning from you made me understand the exact meaning of the word mentor. Nothing used to be difficult for me while working with you, whether it was project related research or a subject related query, you were always there for helping me out. Working with you on technical projects not only gave me an exposure towards modern day technology but also made the Instrumentation field interesting for me. I would not be wrong in saying that you are one of the main reason behind my stable and successful life today. Keep motivating and keep inspiring. All the best ma’am.”

“One can always learn from textbooks, but a substitute for a teacher is irreplaceable. Working under Dr. Swati Sondhi helped me in getting things done in a perfect way. Not only by managing but also supporting the students with the technicalities that arises. Apart from being such a great mentor and teacher, she is a humble person and is always ready to help. She has always motivated me in every aspect of my life whether it is something personal or is something related to my studies. Thank you for keeping our hopes high.”

  • Shalini Agarwal

“I recently completed my four years of undergraduate program from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology in Electronics (Instrumentation and Control) Engg and am currently employed as Project Engineer with Wirpo Ltd. In our third year of B.E. program we are required to undertake a major engineering project which generally runs through the whole year and is of around 8 credit score. We are required to work under the guidance of faculty of the respective branches in order to deliver a successful end product (result). Our group of three batch mates, including me, requested Dr. Swati Sondhi to come on board with us and be our mentor for the Capstone project as we have been taught by her earlier and we knew about her excellent supportive nature and of course her extraordinary leadership skill. Having worked with ma’am for almost a year, and being able to deliver our project among the top two in our batch, I am very grateful for her meticulous and dedicated guidance through the complete period of our project. In my opinion, we couldn’t have received a better mentorship with various insights related to the methodology of the project work and step by step direction leading to the end product. And moreover, not just limited to being our project guide, I can always look up for guidance in ma’am for my future endeavours as well!”

PROJECT : AUTONOMOUS DELIVERY BOT USING ROS AND SLAM

This was my capstone (final year) project and was very critical for me and my team. We worked on Robotic Operating System using Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping with very high end depth camera (Orbbec Astra pro). After being taught subjects like Robotics and Advance Control Systems, we wanted ma’am to mentor us for the final year project.

Her vision and capacity to make concepts easy for us in subjects were primary reasons for aligning with her for this project. She has a very strong hold on subjects like control systems, robotics, image processing and hands on knowledge on specialized soft wares and tools. Since our project involved a combination of image processing and control systems, we thought that ma’am would be an amazing mentor to have.

Once we had thought about the project idea, she mentored us thoroughly by sitting with us and discussing the various stages, drawing a timeline for us and discussing each part step by step. We worked on small pieces and then went and collaborated with ma’am. From hardcore software to hardware, she is always willing to dig in depth and provides us more clarity on concepts and their applications. Unlike others, she went a mile ahead to research herself and bring clarity to us wherever we got stuck. Apart from the project, she also opened up the world of research publications for us. Although, the first attempt for us was unsuccessful, but writing a conference paper for an international conference gave us a huge exposure on this end.

Apart from her technical expertise, she is the friendliest teacher I have come across. Be it any problem, she has been the go to person for me. I can never thank her enough for always being there and helping me get out of troubles. She has always facilitated growth for me by providing me the right opportunities, environment and exposure.

WHERE DID IT HELP?

In the interviews I gave, for campus placements, the subjects taught by her were always on tips and have helped me answer questions easily without much revision. The project I worked on, has given me a lot of knowledge on emerging technologies like ROS, Image Processing and tools like Matlab, Solidworks, etc. Whenever I have appeared in an interview, I am always asked questions on these tools and I can answer all the questions easily.

In the interview for Capgemini, I was asked about robotics and automation, and my projects in the same field and I feel that having a good grasp on various technologies and subjects of interest have played a major role in getting me this job
